Clinic Sterilization Room Setup: Essential Supplies Checklist

Setting up a sterilization room is one of the first infrastructure decisions a new Canadian clinic or dental practice makes. Done well, the room keeps instruments moving in one direction, from contaminated to sterile. Done poorly, it creates bottlenecks, reprocessing errors, and compliance headaches. 1. Design the Room Around One-Way Flow

Dust, moisture, and temperature swings compromise packaging integrity long before the contents are used. 5. Train Staff and Document Everything

Reprocessing is a clinical skill, not a side task. CSA Z314.8, the Canadian standard for decontamination and reprocessing of reusable medical devices, sets the expectation: written procedures, validated cycles, and records that show what was processed, when, and by whom. New staff should be supervised until they demonstrate consistent technique, and every team member should review the basics at least annually.
