How often does an Ontario dental office run a biological indicator?
More often than the number most suppliers quote. The widely repeated figure — one spore test per week — is the general baseline used in CDC and AAMI guidance. Ontario dental practice sets a different expectation: a biological indicator is run for each sterilizer on every day it is used, and for each type of cycle.
Work through what that means for consumables. One sterilizer, one cycle type in use, five clinical days a week:

What is the difference between a Class 5 integrator and a biological indicator?
A biological indicator contains spores and demonstrates that the cycle actually killed them — it is the only one of the two that speaks to lethality. A Class 5 chemical integrator is a process monitor: it shows the pack was exposed to the required conditions, which is a different claim. A process indicator printed on the pouch shows only that the pack went through a cycle. Running all three is normal; treating the chemical indicator as a substitute for the biological one is not.
What does the sterilizer itself cost?
