Most benchtop ultrasonic cleaners sold online are built for jewellery, glasses and dentures. They are small, they are cheap, and they cannot take a standard dental instrument cassette — which means someone at your practice ends up running them in loose batches, twice.

The CS6.2 is a 6 L class unit. That is the size at which a full cassette fits in one cycle, which is the whole point of having a cleaner on the bench.

Why the 6 L class is the one that matters

Instrument cassettes are the standard way dental practices sterilise. If your cleaner cannot take the cassette, you are either unpacking instruments to clean them or running two cycles, and both cost you time every single day.

Many low-cost units sold online carry FCC, CE and RoHS only. Those are not electrical safety certifications, and a unit without an NRTL mark should not be installed in a commercial setting under the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. If you are being asked to sign off on a clinic, that distinction is the one that matters.

What the dual frequency actually does for you

Cavitation behaves differently at different frequencies, and this is not a marketing line — it is physics.

• 32 kHz — larger, more energetic bubbles. Better at lifting heavier soils: cement residue, polishing paste, dried blood on hinged instruments.

• 48 kHz — smaller, denser bubbles. Gentler, and it reaches into fine crevices, lumens and threaded joints without the erosion risk that aggressive low-frequency cavitation can cause on plated instruments.

Running both means one machine covers the whole load rather than forcing you to choose between "heavy soil" and "delicate instrument".

Degassing matters more than people expect. Freshly filled tap water is saturated with dissolved air, and dissolved air absorbs the energy that should be forming cavitation bubbles. A 120-second degas cycle at the start is why the first load of the day performs like the fourth.

In use

1. Fill to the marked level, add the cleaning solution, and run the 120 s degas cycle.

2. Heat to 40–60 °C. Warm solution measurably improves soil removal.

3. Load — instruments in the basket or cassette, not piled on the tank floor. Cavitation is blocked by contact surfaces.

4. Run the cycle, then rinse and inspect before sterilisation.

5. Empty and dry the tank. Leaving solution in overnight is what shortens the life of the transducer plate.

• Enzymatic ultrasonic cleaning solution — 4 L concentrate. The right chemistry does more work than a longer cycle.

• Instrument lubricant / rust inhibitor — for hinged instruments after cleaning, before sterilisation.

• Cleaning brushes — lumen and hinge brushes; ultrasonic energy does not reach inside a narrow lumen effectively on its own.

• Sterilisation pouches, indicator tape and biological indicators — for the steps after the cleaner.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need a special outlet? No. AC 100–120 V, standard North American supply.

Can I put instruments straight from the patient into it? Ideally, pre-rinse or wipe first. Ultrasonic cleaning is not a substitute for gross decontamination, and heavy debris shortens solution life.

Can it damage my instruments? At 48 kHz, plated and hinged instruments are safe when they are not resting against each other or the tank wall. Aluminium and anodised surfaces should not be placed in an ultrasonic bath at all, regardless of machine.

How often do I change the solution? Daily, or sooner if it is visibly soiled. This is the single most common reason practices report poor cleaning results.

Do you provide the documentation for a clinic audit? Yes — the certification reference for this model and our Health Canada establishment licence number are supplied with the unit, and we can send them ahead of purchase.

Straight answers — including the things you may not want to hear

Most listings in this category skip the awkward parts. We do not, because the awkward parts are usually what decides the purchase.

What this unit will not do.

• It will not clean aluminium or anodised instruments. No ultrasonic cleaner will. Anodised coatings and bare aluminium are attacked by the cavitation and by alkaline cleaning solutions. If you use aluminium trays or anodised cassettes, do not put them in any ultrasonic bath.

• It will not clean the inside of a narrow lumen on its own. Ultrasonic energy does not travel well down a small-diameter channel. Lumens and hinges need a brush as well — this is true of every unit at every price.

• It does not replace gross decontamination. Heavy debris should be wiped or rinsed off first. Solution life and cleaning performance both drop if you do not.

• It does not sterilise. This is a cleaner. Sterilisation is a separate step, in a separate machine.

What we can state plainly, that others often will not.

• The tank holds 6 litres, and it measures 31.1 × 17.2 × 11.6 cm. Take a tape measure to your cassette before you buy. We would rather you check and not order than order and be disappointed.

• The capacity figure is the real tank volume, not a model number. The model is CS6.2. The tank is 6 litres.

• The electrical certification is cETL, to CSA C22.2 No. 68 and UL 73, issued by Intertek. We name the standard and the issuer so you can verify it. A product that says only "FCC, CE and RoHS" is telling you it holds no North American electrical safety certification — those three are emissions and materials marks, not safety marks, and a unit without an NRTL mark has no business being installed in a commercial setting.
