The arithmetic is straightforward but rarely applied before purchase. Under the Ontario schedule, a practice with two sterilizers running two cycle types each can generate up to four indicators in a single working day, which means a block of at least four positions avoids a second incubation run. Under the weekly United States baseline the same practice needs capacity for the indicator and its matching control once a week, and a small block is sufficient. Temperature Control: Why the Set Point Is Not the Whole Specification

Steam biological indicators use Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores, which grow in the 55–60°C range. ISO 11138-3:2017 specifies the requirements for biological indicators used to assess moist heat sterilization processes, and the incubation conditions form part of the validated system in which the indicator is claimed to perform.
