Which biological indicator vials seat properly in this dry block?

The block is machined with twenty-four wells of eight point eight millimetres across, cut to the outside diameter of a self-contained spore ampoule, so a standard tube drops in flush and the aluminium wall carries heat the whole length of the vial. A wider cap will not enter the well at all, and an undersized tube sits loose with an air gap around it, which is the usual reason one indicator in a batch reads late. Anything used here has to be read at 56 to 60 degrees C, the growth band for Geobacillus stearothermophilus; the 24-hour spore test ampoules match that well format and that temperature window.

Is one unit the right order, or does a clinic buy a case of them?

A case pack does not exist for this device: it leaves as a single bench unit with its external adapter, so the SKU on the invoice is one machine and a busy office usually stops there. The reprocessing bench is where incubation happens, not each operatory, so four chairs sharing one sterilizer need one block and a second one only when a second sterilizer sits in another suite. Buying two units for redundancy sounds prudent until both sit half full and neither is ever the one an auditor asks to see.

How many wells does a three-sterilizer office fill in a working week?

Count one well per sterilizer per day it is run. Three sterilizers across a five-day week is fifteen wells, a six-day week is eighteen, and a 24-well block still holds six seats for the re-test that follows a failed indicator and for the extra run after a holiday closure. That spare room is the practical reason the block is sized above a single day's load: a failure on Friday afternoon cannot wait for Monday if the block is already full. Offices that want a same-shift answer pair this block with a rapid reader, or step down to a one-hour readout indicator and read it in the reader at the bench.

Print the daily record sheet from the spore log and record centre, work out how many indicators a week of clinics consumes with the sterilizer run planner, and put a procedure question to the sterilization compliance desk. Districts consolidating several sites order through the wholesale desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this incubator meet Ontario sterilization monitoring requirements?
Yes. The RCDSO requires a biological indicator to be tested for each sterilizer on every day it is used. This 24-hour dry-block incubator holds the 56-60 degrees C range that biological indicators need, so daily in-office spore testing can be run without sending samples to an outside lab.
How many biological indicators can it hold at one time?
Twenty-four wells. A single-operatory clinic running one sterilizer typically uses one well per test day, so the capacity covers several days of monitoring before any repeat run is needed.
How stable is the incubation temperature?
The PID-controlled dry-block heating element works with an NTC temperature sensor to hold a stable zone within plus or minus 0.5 degrees C. Stable temperature is what makes the colour change on a biological indicator readable, so drift is the main cause of inconclusive results.
Can I export records if a regulator or auditor asks for them?
Yes. The unit has an LCD display and USB data export, so incubation records can be moved off the device and kept with your other sterilization logs rather than transcribed by hand.
What arrives with the incubator?
The incubator itself, plus 25 biological indicator spore tests included at no charge. That is roughly 12 monitoring days for a single sterilizer, so monitoring can start on day one instead of waiting on a separate indicator order.
This model is no longer stocked — what replaced it?
It has been replaced by the DLAB HB105-S1 Dry-Bath Incubator with Lid — 20 wells in one heating block, cTUVus certified (TÜV Rheinland certificate CU 72205506 0001), 115 V AC — which is the model we currently stock and ship. The current model's price, full specification and certificate details are on its product page.
What power supply does it require?
The current model, the DLAB HB105-S1, runs on 115 V AC 50/60 Hz with a North American plug. The unit also has overheating protection and a PT1000 external sensor input.
